In this episode of Not Without My Sister, the podcast, Beatrice Mac Cabe and Rosemary Mac Cabe invite you to relax, pull up a chair, as they proudly present: their Dad.
Philip Mac Cabe is a man of many talents – when he’s interested in something, he will absorb every single possible available diode of information about it, and then he’ll go on a further deep dive to get some more. He does have his limits, mind you: making sensible decisions when faced with possible burglary, for example, wouldn’t be his forte; nor would giving medical advice or offering any form of diagnosis. Impressively, he has never allowed those limitations to stifle his efforts. In this episode, we chat through his skills and foibles, the moments we’ve been proud of him and the other moments where we’ve been, well, less proud.
Things we mention:
Beatrice begins – insultingly – by referring to a book and TED talk by Tomas Chamorro Premuzic. The TED talk is here and the book, Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders?, is on Amazon, but you may also be able to order it into a bookshop near you.
Dad’s hydroponic plant growing / watering tower he 3D printed is a little like this.
The Wives by Tarryn Fisher was not what we expected.
Dr. Death, a podcast from Wondery.
House, one of Bea’s favourite shows, featuring Hugh Laurie.
Jeeves & Wooster by P.G. Wodehouse.
